IOL is a Namibian distance education institution and was founded in July 1997. The National Qualifications Authority (NQA) officially granted recognition to the primary education courses of IOL during 2001. This means that both the primary and tertiary education courses of IOL are approved and can be recognized by the Ministry of Eeducation for salary and promotion purposes. Student numbers grew by 16% in the 2008 financial year and 46% in the 2007 financial year to around 15 500 student enrolments.
